Welcome to Ms. Velazquez’s Media Arts Class!!
Students visit Media Arts class once or twice a week for a 50-minute period. It averages to about 36 art lessons a year. Average work time per class is 30 minutes with a 10-minute introduction and a 10-minute clean-up. In class, students explore the artistic process; to plan, create, reflect, revise and present. We brainstorm concepts, explore art materials, learn techniques, research artists, reflect on our own work and critique the work of our peers. The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts provide a standards-based, rigorous approach to teaching the arts. You may view these standards on the link below. In Media Arts students are expected to be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, RESOURCEFUL, and SAFE. I strive to maintain an emotionally safe environment of respect and independence to foster creativity and challenge thinking. K-5th Grade will explore a variety of art forms including: Journaling, Collage, Drawing in Pen and Pencil, Drawing Realistic and Imaginary Objects, Drawing Perspective and in 3D, Drawing Realistic and Imaginary Figures, Color Theory, Watercolor Techniques, Painting in Tempera, and Acrylic, Graphic Design, Printmaking; Monoprints, Foam Etching, Collographs, Clay; Pinch Pot, Slab, and Coil, Construction with Cardboard, Wood, and Recycled Materials, Photography, Film Making, Animation, and Design.
